Meet SFC Blake and his son

Below is a quote from MarcAnthony Blake, the 19 year old son of SFC Blake. He has been helping the HBI staff and Veterans at our Jacksonville site.

"Since I started helping here at HBI, I have had the awesome opportunity to meet and help some veterans, and work with some great people. They really care for our veterans, and it just makes me proud to be an American when I see other Americans care for those in need, especially the people who defended this country. I am also trying to join the U.S. military and it makes me feel reassured knowing our service men and women are taken care of by such nice people. I grew up as an Army brat and I know not everyone respects the people who defend us, so I am glad to see there are some honest Americans helping our veterans get an education and become productive members of society. This has been an experience I shall not soon forget."

HBI and the PACT for Veterans Program

Home Builders Institute, (HBI) a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, is a national leader for career training in the building industry. Through certification programs, mentoring, pre-apprenticeships and job placement services, HBI prepares its students - including at-risk and underserved populations such as youth, veterans, ex-offenders and displaced workers – with the skills and experience they need for successful careers in the building industry. HBI program graduates are qualified to work across many different sectors of the building industry, giving businesses a competitive edge when hiring new workers.

HBI PACT for Veterans program was started in the state of Florida and funded through the Department of Economic Opportunity. The program focuses on training Military Veterans in pre-apprenticeship level Facilities Maintenance; providing resume, interviewing, cover letter training and job placement assistance. The PACT for Veterans program was started back in July of 2012. The program is now in its second year of operation. During the first year the program had an 84% job placement rate for Veterans enrolled in the program. HBI staff were able to help over 200 Veterans during the first year and this second year will be no exception!
